Refocus

Stop for a second, take a step back and rid your mind of all the distractions that are currently clouding your perspective. Breathe. Open your eyes and your heart and give God a chance to speak to you and give you clarity.

We live in an age where stopping and focusing seem almost impossible. I don’t know about you but sometimes it feels like my to do list never ends, like there is always something that “needs” to be done and if not that then a notification comes up reminding me to check out the latest -fill in the blank-.

Guess what? Your busy life doesn’t control you. You don’t need to fall into the shackles of every notification your phone sends your way. The devil is using the world to feed you distractions that keep you busy and away from doing the work of our Lord but you can say no.

Colossians 3:2 says this “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”

We don’t have to let the devil win. You do have a choice. It’s time to put down your phone, take a step back and refocus. Focus your attention on God, on things above; on what truly matters. There’s nothing more important than your relationship with God. Stop allowing these distractions to pull you further away from Him.

Take a step back and evaluate where your focus currently lies. Are you focused on your own agenda or on God? What is preventing you from the reading the Bible? Are you spending too much time on your phone, with friends, or at work that you’re becoming “too busy” for God?

When we learn to set our affection on God and not on our own agenda, God gives us the time we need to accomplish all our tasks, He will give you direction. Life doesn’t have to feel rushed, you don’t have to be overcome by distractions. Give God the time, not because He deserve it but to draw closer and deeper into a relationship with Him.

Whatever it takes. Whether it be taking a step back from your workload, letting go of your pride, setting your phone down, turning the TV off or signing out of social media, ask God to help you discover what it is that is holding you back and let it go; replace that time with Him. Draw closer to God and refocus on Him.
