Desire

What do you desire most in life? Is it fame? A promotion? Higher grades in school? The next Marvel movie? A new car or a home?

The song Clear the Stage by Jimmy Needham portrays a powerful and convicting message regarding our desires:

“Anything I put before my God is an idol
Anything I want with all my heart is an idol
And anything I can't stop thinking of is an idol
And anything that I give all my love is an idol”

It’s okay to want something but when your wants start to become your priority and take control of your direction in life then it’s time to do some re-evaluating. This world has nothing to offer that should come before God.

The devil will use anything in his means to get in the way of your relationship with God, don’t let him win. Open your eyes, be cautious and aware of what the devil might use against you.

Entertainment and social gratification is constantly being pushed and promoted; urging its viewers to seek after the next best thing or the next big movie. Offering temporarily feelings of satisfaction and instant gratification, while keeping us so distracted that we forget about God and the significance of our relationship with Him.

..God loves me so as long as I go to church on Sunday then the rest of the week I can do, say, or have whatever I want and if something goes wrong I know God will be there…

Romans 12:2 says this “Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

God did not send His son, to die on a cross so that we could simply go about our day. Yes, God loves you, but He wants SO much more for your life and when we truly give up all that we have to follow Him then and only then will you be living to your fullest potential.

Stop allowing the devil to use entertainment, success or temporarily pleasures to cloud your perspective but keep your heart and your eyes focused on God. He should be your focus. There is nothing we ought to desire more than a deeper relationship with our Lord.
