Prayer vs. Panic

Overcoming fear isn’t resolved with panic or by attempting to control the situation but rather fear is overcome by prayer, fasting and completing trusting in God.

As children of God, we don’t have to go through trials on our own nor do we have to fear the unknown because our future is cemented in Christ. Our home is not here but it is in Heaven, spent in eternity with Christ. Why are we panicking about our current circumstances when our God is preparing our eternal home for us as we speak. If Christ is your personal savior then your response should NOT be panic but trusting in His promises and provisions, for your safety now but most importantly your eternal salvation.

The dictionary defines panic as “sudden uncontrollable fear or anxiety”. Do you know what causes you to panic? Panic is an outward emotion of fear or anxiety, fear and anxiety that stem from a lack of faith or trust in the world or the stability of current situations. As a child of God when you express fear or anxiety you are essentially telling God “Hey, I know the Bible tells me time and time again not to fear and that you are here with me but I’m choosing to ignore all that and not have faith in your promises.” By panicking and being fearful you’re not trusting God, you’re ignoring His presence in your life and exhibiting a weakness of your faith, when we should be setting an example to the world that as Christians, we aren’t afraid because God is in control. The same God who created the universe is in control of your life, your future and your present. No matter what happens He will deliver you through the storm and chaos.

Psalms 27:1 says this “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

God knows just what you need exactly when you need it and the only way He’ll truly know what you need is when you’re in close communication with Him, that is why prayer is so important. Prayer allows us to have an intimate relationship with our God. How incredible is it that we have the Holy Spirit living within us so that in times of hardship or even times of joy we can share whatever is on our hearts with God and He will listen? Prayer isn’t a simple statement we make before bed or during dinner but rather it is the way God has allowed us to communicate with Him. It is through this personal communication that we will build a solid relationship with God and the closer you are with Him the stronger your faith in Him will become.

Philippians 4:6-7 says this “Be anxious for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

So, the next time you panic, drop to your knees, bow your head and surrender to God. You don’t have to go through life alone. He is near you, waiting to speak to you to you and draw closer to you. Don’t shut Him out. Open your heart and speak to Him. Let Him hear your troubles and communicate with you. Allow God into your life and show Him that you have faith in His promises. Don’t let the uncertainties of the world, the chaos, or pandemic cause you to lose faith but allow these moments to help strengthen your prayer life and your walk with God. It is only through prayer and a personal relationship with Christ that you will overcome fear.
