Scars

You are not the only who has had their heart broken or experiencing pain. Neither are you the only one who has been hurt and the unfortunately chances are you will be hurt again but you do not have to let your pain be what defines you.

Your scars are not a symbol of suffering but an emblem of hope.

Psalm 147:3 says this “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”

Whether we like it or not, pain is going to find us. We live in a world full of sin and destruction; not to mention we are all human and without even intentionally doing so we will end up getting hurt or do the hurting but there is beauty in pain, there is hope in suffering and there is a God who heals. As children of God, we don’t have to wallow in our own self pity, we don’t have to hide or suffer because we have a God who cares so deeply for us and wants to use your wounds as a story of His love.

God reminds us through the life of Job that He will never make us suffer more than what we can handle. This doesn’t mean that God will prevent us from being put through pain but rather He desires that, through those moments of tribulation, we learn to rely solely on Him.

Allow your wounds or your scars be a reminder of the brokenness that God brought you out of, a glimpse of His precious love and grace in your life. When you look back see what He saved you from and allow that pain to bring you closer to Him.

There’s a song by Scars by I AM THEY that is a beautiful reminder of how we are to be thankful not just for our own scars but also the scars that Christ bore on the cross:

“Darkest water and deepest pain
I wouldn't trade it for anything’
Cause my brokenness brought me to You
And these wounds are a story You'll use
So forever I am thankful for the scars’
Cause without them I wouldn't know Your heart
And I know they'll always tell of who You are”

Our feelings can lead us astray, causing us to be revengeful or retaliate but when we think about how Christ reacted when He went through tribulation we are reminded of the compassion He felt for those who hurt Him. Just like the scars on His hands are a symbol of hope; our scars are a reminder of His love!
